Looking For Love On Mongo Tongo

Looking For Love On Mongo Tongo by Margaret J. McMaster

Book Two of the Babysitter Out of Control! Series

Mrs Chairbottom is on her way to babysit 8 year old Stewart and she’s stuck in traffic. Stewart convinces his parents to leave so they won’t miss their flight, they are off on vacation. Stewart knows he won’t get into trouble, at least not til Mrs. Chairbottom gets there. She’s a walking trouble magnet and she’s bringing Petey her parrot, and that means double trouble!

When Mrs. Chairbottom arrives, she’s using a cane. She received it after falling in some hedges while doing a ‘Save the Whales’ marathon. After momentarily forgeting Petey the parrot in the car, and having to listen to him squawk, Stewart knows this is going to be a long week!

When Stewart sees Petey he’s shocked by how he looks. Talk about your bad hair day! He asks Mrs. Chairbottom about it and she launches into the story about how Petey fell in love on Mongo Tongo with one of the wild parrots there and is so love struck that being away from her is causing him to lose all his feathers. Stewart asks Mrs. Chairbottom if this could make Petey sick, like die from it sick.

Suddenly Mrs. Chairbottom has a plan! She, Stewart, Petey and her driver/attendant Ronald are going to fly to Mongo Tongo and find Petey’s girlfriend. What could possibly go wrong?

This is a wonderful children’s story that would appeal to both boys and girls. Its 57 pages long, so wouldn’t be intimidating for children that aren’t really book lovers. The story is quick paced, easy to read and has beautiful color illustrations. The touches of humor, action and friendship will definitely appeal to children.
