This is my good friend Simon. He’s been part of our family for 5 and 1/2 years. He always enjoys when I open a book cause it means I won’t be moving much and he can snuggle up close.  Now you might ask yourself what does this little guy have to do with books, sit back and I will tell you.

Simon is a mini dachshund, a rare blue. I have had dogs in my life since I was a young girl. Simon is my husband’s first dog. Since my husband had no experience with dogs I bought several books on dachshunds,  dog training and pet ownership. There are several great books out there for the first time or long time dog owner. These are my 3 favorites:

Dachshund (Complete Pet Owner’s Manual) by Chris Pinney

This is a great little book full of advice and information on how to take proper care of dachshunds.
ISBN: 0764112473

Includes:  The typical dachshund, expert advice and appreciating dachshund

Dachshund

DACHSHUND  A Comprehensive Guide to Owning and Caring for your Dog.

Hardcover, Kennel Club Books
2003
English
154 pages

ISBN: 1593782543

Another great book on caring for your dachshund.

And last, but not least, a great guide for all dog breeds:

Raising a Puppy

K.I.S.S. (Keep it Simple Series) Guide to Raising a Puppy

Trade paperback, DK Publishing (Dorling Kindersley)
2002
English
288 pages

ISBN: 0789489473
ISBN-13: 9780789489470

A dog obedience specialist offers practical information on choosing the right puppy, nutrition, exercise, and when to take the puppy to the vet. This one really helped my husband understand how to train and take care of our puppy right from the start.

Two of the books are specific to dachshunds. The K.I.S.S.  Guide to raising a Puppy is for all breeds of dogs. Since Simon means a lot to my family and I, I wanted to share him with you. If you are considering getting a dog, or any pet, please check out your local animal shelters, such as the ASPCA. So many animals could use our help and love and they give so much back in return.
